Mrs. Alice Powell-Brown began reading music and ringing handbells in the early 1980s while in middle school in Jacksonville, North Carolina. In Texas City, she played in three levels of bell choirs before moving to San Antonio in 1999. Her passion for handbells led her to assist with the handbell choir at Second Baptist Church, where she became director around 2008 and has led the handbell and chimes choir ever since. She also rings with the Joyful Ringers at Windcrest United Methodist Church and substitutes with other choirs across the city. Mrs. Powell-Brown has been a Special Education teacher with NEISD for over 20 years and works with a nonprofit providing respite care for children with disabilities and their siblings. She holds a Bachelor’s in Education and a Master’s in Instructional Technology. She is the daughter of a Marine Corps veteran, sibling to Marine Corps, Air Force, and Army veterans, married to an Air Force veteran, and is the mother of four children and grandmother of two.
